MOE published the 2027 school calendar on 14 July 2026. For families whose child is expecting an AEIS offer, it answers a practical question: when does the school year begin?
The year and the terms
The school year for all MOE primary schools and secondary schools starts on Monday, 4 January 2027 and ends on Friday, 19 November 2027. The last day of the final term is Friday, 29 October 2027 for schools used as venues for the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education (SEC) written examinations. The calendar for MOE Kindergartens, primary and secondary schools is:

The first day
MOE's footnote separates two groups. Primary 1 and Kindergarten 1 start school on Monday, 4 January 2027. Primary 2 to 6 and Kindergarten 2 start on Tuesday, 5 January 2027.
School vacations for primary and secondary
- Between Terms I and II: Sat 13 Mar to Sun 21 Mar.
- Between Semesters I and II: Sat 29 May to Sun 27 Jun.
- Between Terms III and IV: Sat 4 Sep to Sun 12 Sep.
- End of the school year: Sat 20 Nov to Fri 31 Dec.
Scheduled school holidays
MOE lists Youth Day on Sunday, 4 July, with the following Monday, 5 July, as a school holiday. The day after National Day, Tuesday, 10 August, is a school holiday. Teachers' Day is Friday, 3 September. Children's Day, Friday, 8 October, applies to primary schools and the primary sections of full schools only.
MOE also lists designated days off in lieu, when schools are closed: Tuesday, 9 February, Monday, 3 May and Monday, 27 December.
Where this meets AEIS
MOE's AEIS overview says that successful applicants start school in January of the following year. For the 2026 AEIS, the reporting periods on MOE's outcome page run from 11 December 2026 for Secondary 2 to 3 and from 18 December 2026 for Primary 2 to 5, both until 30 December 2026. Secondary 1 reporting runs from late December 2026 to early January 2027. The school year starts on Monday, 4 January 2027.
What we could not confirm
- The first day for a newly admitted AEIS student. The calendar gives start dates for Primary 1, Primary 2 to 6 and the school year as a whole, and says nothing specific about new entrants or about Secondary 1.
- The calendar for 2028. In MOE's sitemap on 18 October 2026, the most recent school terms and holidays release is the one for 2027, dated 14 July 2026.
